In spring and summer, we take you to this magnificent canyon, where you can enjoy a series of jumps and slides in the breathtaking scenery of the Cévennes. But this winter, our 14-year-old son, kayak on his shoulder, explored it by kayak when the water level was perfect. Here is a link to the video of the Lower Chassezac Canyon by kayak. He knows it by heart, having practised it with Ugo in ‘canyon’ mode. But now he has raced down it by kayak, jumps and slides. ‘Mum, it was beautiful but still cold…’. https://youtu.be/XdnsrfZ8CCc?si=iN6rcy-UHdWsgoL2
This winter
We are far from summer temperatures. If you have practised canyoning in the lower Chassezac during the summer season, you will already have been surprised by the water temperature. While outside the thermometer sometimes reaches 30°C, the water rarely exceeds 15°C.
You are well equipped and you are moving, so the cold is not a constraint.
This December 2025, temperatures are very cool, rarely above 5°C, but up there in the Lower Chassezac Canyon, there are places where it hasn’t thawed all day. My son, that ice cube, is fortunately well equipped.
This is a glimpse into our winter life. A passion for white water that we have passed on to our children.
